inkpopper of the Week: Nella-Rosmarino

Posted by inkpop on March 23, 2010

I can be sarcastic, but not mean-spirited.
I wish I was a teen in the ’80s!
I’m a Bella-hater. I want to say “no offense,” but my inner self wants to say something else.

That’s just a slice of how inkpopper Nella Rosmarino (aka Andrea Paz) describes herself on her inkpop profile. She’s got loads more to say about “writing as a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia” in addition to her favorite books and movies.

The 15-year-old who recently moved from a “California surfer town” to Arizona is an inkpop Trendsetter who’s written a book for inkpop called Chaos Children and a collaborative project called V’Day: 8 Tales of Love, Horror, and Friendship among other projects.

The inkpopper of the Week chats here about her obsession, inkpop friendships, and what she’d like to change about the world.

inkpop: What’s the most interesting thing about you?

Nella Rosmarino: I can sneeze with my eyes open—just kidding. Well, besides my quirky interests, the most interesting thing about me is that I’m a walking contradiction. Most of the time it’s annoying, but sometimes I feel that it lets me look at a problem with two perspectives.

In your inkpop profile, you write that January 22 is a bad date for you. How come?

Some people might find this a bit weird but that’s when Heath Ledger died. It’s sad knowing he won’t be with his family anymore or making awesome movies.

Ah, I see. That was actually going to be part of my next question—you also write in your profile that you’re obsessed with Heath Ledger. When did you become obsessed, and what do you like most about him or one of his movies?

I’ll try to keep this answer short, because when I talk about him, I usually start ranting. I became obsessed with him in the summer of 2008. I was bored, and this random movied popped up—I was amazed by his acting skills. That’s what I admire most about him—not only did he have great acting skills, but he was so passionate about it; I’ve never seen an actor like him in my life. Someday, I want to become that passionate about my writing—I already am, but there’s always room for improvement and dedication. And, of course, that random movie turned out to be 10 Things I Hate About You.

What are your inkpop friendships like?

They’re incredible. I’ve met so many awesome and talented people in inkpop. I love the fact that we’re all writers and that ties together, but we’re different as well.

You have a pretty high rank as an inkpop Trendsetter. How do you “stumble upon” the projects that are on your Picks List?

Sometimes I search for “new” projects on the search bar, or I see somebody promoting somebody’s else work. Also, I can find good projects through swaps.

If you could host a live chat with anyone on inkpop, who would it be with?

This is a really hard question for me, because a lot of my favorite authors come from HarperCollins. It’s a tie between L.J. Smith and Michael Grant. I would have to choose Michael Grant because I’m currently in love with Gone and Hunger. His books have my favorite couple from literature: Caine and Diana.

If you could change anything about the world, what would you change?

Something that’s been bothering me for a while is censorship. As both a reader and a writer, it worries me that people from certain countries are not allowed to read whatever they please. We all have a right to read what pleases us—that’s why we have so many different genres, because we’re not all the same. That’s one of the beauties of literature and they’re taking that away from them.
