inkpop member whentherainfalls gets advice from the award-winning author about staying motivated
inkpoppers, teen-lit fans, and diehard Carolyn Mackler followers have been invited to ask the award-winning author “anything in the world” by posting their questions on this inkpop Forums thread. Each week of April 2010, Carolyn Mackler answers the best question. Four winners (one per week) win an autographed copy of Mackler’s latest novel, Tangled.
For the second week of the “Ask Carolyn Mackler Anything in the World” series, inkpop members posted all sorts of questions, ranging from listening to music while writing, whether to write a prologue, and the length of time it takes to write a book.
Like the first week, it was difficult to narrow down the questions to just one, but here’s the second-week winning question from inkpop member whentherainfalls:
I have been struggling with this problem for a while, and I was wondering, how do you come up with an idea, not only suitable for publishing, but also one that you care enough to write about? I have these ideas, but when it finally comes to writing them down, I find that I don’t care enough about the characters to continue on with the novel.

The “Ask Carolyn Mackler Anything in the World” series runs through the end of April. Visit inkpop.com to read and post questions for the author. Mackler will select and answer the third winning question on Friday, April 23.
