inkpop announces Change Challenge

Posted by inkpop on April 25, 2010

“I’m tired of seeing commercials, movies, ads, even books that are filled with BS, so I figured this would be a good place to say, ‘Hey, call it like you see it, everyone!’” — suddenthump

“During some government meeting last month, someone said, ‘Well, only 36,000 people lost their jobs today, which is good.’” — Lycanthrope

“I call BS on the food companies that now suddenly have ‘healthy’ versions of everything. Bread, pasta, ‘real’ mayo (What was it before?), no trans fat, etc. Why weren’t these items on the shelves to begin with? Why have people shoved crap in their bodies for decades only to now have a flurry of ‘healthy’ stuff? Argh.” — Herald Angus Penn

Interesting points, right? These annoyances and frustrations (among many others) that inkpoppers vent about in the “Calling out BS” Forums thread are the inspiration for the Change inkpop Challenge.

So here’s the question inkpop asks in the teen writing contest: If you could change anything about the world, what would it be? It could be anything from banning grades and report cards to going back in time to “de-invent” war.

inkpop kicked off the Change Challenge on April 23, giving inkpop site members seven days to submit essays of any length. Four winners—two writers and two inkpoppers who comment on submissions—will be randomly selected to win three HarperTeen books of their choice.

Hey. Cool. People usually treat that perspective as “offensive” or “politically incorrect,” thanks for not just dismissing it. I might have to write something for it myself.
