WWC: Totally PUNK’D!

Posted by cat eyes & skinny jeans on June 5, 2010

“Totally PUNK’D!”

★ Launch Date: Sunday, June 6th, 2010
★ Due Date: Saturday, June 12th, 2010 by 11.59 PM (Pacific Time)

Challenge Details

Participants will be asked to use any of the “Punk” genres (Cyberpunk, Clockpunk, Steampunk, Elfpunk, etc.) and write a short story.

As a genre challenge, the idea here is to really immerse the reader in the genre. The key to winning this challenge will be the details of a story and how far the genre is taken! Be sure to think about clothing style, era, culture, architecture, etc. As a writer, you are building a world based on the genre you choose!

NOTE: This is a link to a Wikipedia article that has a list of the different Punk genres as well as descriptions of what each one is. For those of you who either don’t know what “Punk” genres are or just want some extra info.

Have fun, be creative and get PUNK’d!

★ Formatting: Short Story
★ 800 word MIN/8,000 WORD MAX
★ Specify your chosen Genre in the long pitch
★ Use ONLY ONE genre in your entry (no genre mixing)

Extra Challenge Requirements

★ Have one main character be MALE
★ Include at least one ACTION Scene (fighting, dueling, chasing, fleeing, exploding, etc.)
★ Write from the perspective of someone who is NOT the main character. (This means it will be a First Person Narrative)
★ Create an INVENTION (it can be anything; weapon, gadget, machine, whatever) that correlates to the particular “Punk” genre you chose.

Post links to all entries in the Week ELEVEN Challenge Thread.

Should you have any questions regarding this challenge please e-mail, or visit the Weekly Writer’s Challenge inkpop Profile.

Good luck inkpoppers!

This is perfect timing, because yesterday I had the most brilliant idea for a steampunk/elfpunk/mythpunk novel that meets all these requirements. Like … seriously. What an awesome coincidence! I’ll just take one of the main points in the plot, shorten it drastically, and write in first instead of third as I had originally intended. This is going to be an awesome challenge! I’m really excited about this one. =D
