Jim Carrey as…Mr. Popper! Jim Carrey stole the show as the title character in the adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ holiday classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas; therefore, it should come as no surprise that he is determined to do his newest character as Mr. Popper in the big screen version of Mr. Popper’s Penguins justice. Having beaten out Jack Black, Owen Wilson, and Ben Stiller for the role; Carrey will begin filming in October 2010. To satisfy modernistic audiences, the film adaptation will center upon a businessman who becomes the guardian of a flock of pesky penguins. The Hollywood Reporter.

High-tech hall monitors Many of us have embarked on painstaking efforts to avoid hotheaded hall monitors during those moments when we trailed into homeroom late, or forgot to get a pass before using the restroom. But with a new method of student tracking; the very same hall monitors who have made our lives a nightmare, and landed us a front row seat in detention are likely to have been the least of our worries. In an effort to keep track of students, faculty, and even school property such as laptops and projectors; New Canaan Public Schools is working to crackdown on foul play by embedding RFID Tags into school equipment and identification cards in an effort to increase security – and account for everyone and everything. Tumblr equals book deal Bloggers are an influential bunch; bringing news on a variety of subjects to the World Wide Web on a daily basis. But, at times, even more popular than the written word is photographs – as evident by the influx of Tumblr bloggers snagging book deals. From Stuff Hipsters Hate to What I Wore and Hipster Puppies – each one of these popular Online hotspots have made the transition from the blogosphere to the bookshelf. As they say, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” MediaBistro.

Over to you…what do you think of Jim Carrey as Mr. Popper? Is there someone else you would have preferred to see take on the role? What do you think of these high-tech hall monitors? Do you feel that they are an invasion of privacy for students/faculty – why or why not? What blogs do you read on a daily basis? If one of your favorite bloggers published a book would you buy it?
