Beautiful Chaos, the third installment in Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl’s Caster Chronicles series isn’t slated to hit bookstores until October 18, 2011; but diehard fans won’t have to wait that long for their next Caster Chronicles fix. On August 2, 2011, Garcia and Stohl will release Dream Dark: A Beautiful Creatures Story, an e-book exclusive download said to be a prequel to Beautiful Chaos, which focuses on Link, Ethan’s best friend, as he begins his own transformation into the supernatural. “In addition to the brand-new short story, the e-book download will also include an exclusive sneak peek at the first five chapters of ‘Beautiful Chaos.’” MTV.

James Patterson’s ‘Maximum Ride’ series coming to an end Since its debut on April 11, 2005, James Patterson’s Maximum Ride series has struck a chord with teenage readers and adults alike with his cast of quirky, part human/part avian characters thought of as modern-day superheroes, but nothing lasts forever – and neither will this series. Patterson recently announced that the release of the eighth book – Nevermore – set to hit bookstores in February 2012, will be the final installment in the series. “Patterson was confident that the movie will be adapted. In fact, the team behind the ‘Iron Man’ movie series just finished writing a ‘Maximum Ride’ screenplay and Catherine Hardwicke told GalleyCat that she may direct the movie.” GalleyCat.

Sara Shepard’s ‘The Lying Game’ coming to the small screen! Though only in bookstores since December of 2010, Sara Shepard’s The Lying Game is quickly following on the heels of the author’s mega-popular Pretty Little Liars series, by making the leap from bookshelf to small screen via a new ABC Family Series based on the book – the first in a new series which “…follows Emma, a kind-hearted foster kid who learns she has an identical twin sister, Sutton. Sutton, unlike Emma, was adopted by wealthy parents and is seemingly living an ideal life. After their initial meeting, Sutton talks Emma into stepping into her life for a few days while she pursues a lead on the mysterious identity of their birth mother. After Sutton inexplicably fails to return to the girls’ designated meeting place, Emma must decide whether to come clean about her identity and risk her own safety in the hope of uncovering her twin sister’s whereabouts, along with the truth about why they were separated in the first place.” The series is set to premiere in late 2011, and stars Alexandra Chando as Emma/Sutton. Just Jared, Jr..

Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark? With all of the hype surrounding who will play girl wonder Katniss Everdeen in the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games, many have overlooked the fact that the male lead – Peeta Mellark – has yet to be cast. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean that the competition isn’t fierce. Though names such as Alex Pettyfer and GLEE‘s Chord Overstreet have been tossed around in reference to the still un-cast role, the current frontrunner appears to be Josh Hutcherson, whom starred in the 2007 film adaptation of Katherine Paterson’s Bridge to Terabithia alongside AnnaSophia Robb. Says Hutcherson on the role, “The character is so much who I am – self deprecating, a people person. And he’d be such a great character to play!” New York Magazine.

Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl’s ‘Caster Chronicles’ headed to theaters! – Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games, J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter, Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments, Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight…all have become, or are on their way to becoming, big-time franchises in the movie world; but there is one additional series that has managed to slip largely under the radar for quite some time – Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl’s The Caster Chronicles; the third title of which will hit bookstores in October of 2011. All that is about to change. With a screenplay already completed by Richard LaGravanese, and a backing by Warner Bros., the only thing left to do is cast characters before pre-production begins on the project late this year. The series “…follows fated lovebirds Ethan and Lena. Ethan, the narrator, is just an average high school kid in a small Southern town until he meets the wildly unique and beautiful Lena, who turns out to be a caster (which, for simplicity’s sake, is like a witch). Amidst loads of Civil War flashbacks, Southern traditions and humorous crossword puzzle references, Ethan is thrown into the mystical caster world filled with life, love or death consequences and realizes he and his family are not so average after all.” Next Movie.

Over to you…have you read Sara Shepard’s The Lying Game? Are you excited to see The Lying Game hit the small screen? Do you think that Josh Hutcherson would make a good Peeta Mellark – why or why not? If you could choose the perfect person to play Peeta Mellark, who would it be and why? Have you read Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl’s The Caster Chronicles? Are you excited to see Lena and Ethan adapted for the big screen?

‘The Vampire Diaries’…the prequel The love triangle between the beautiful Elena, and bloodsucking creature-of-the-night brothers Damon and Stefan has been leaving readers on the edge of their seats since The Vampire Diaries books first debuted back in 1991 via L.J. Smith’s hand, causing curiosity over which brother Elena would choose; publishers, however, have obviously selected their frontrunner – at least for the moment. Come November 2010, HarperCollins Children’s Books and Alloy Entertainment will release Stefan’s Diaries # 1: Origins. The first in a proposed trilogy, Stefan’s Diaries will provide a glimpse at Stefan and Damon’s history – including scenes which take the reader back to Civil War-era and the romance that began their feud with one another. Entertainment Weekly.

What’s cool? Adam Rex’s ‘Fat Vampire’! It was just a little over a month ago that Fat Vampire author Adam Rex was in the inkpop forums, giving us advice about writing parodies; and already his YA effort, which was officially released on July 27, 2010, is receiving praise and being called “cool.” Whitney Matheson, of USA Today’s Pop Candy said “Rex manages to satirize the current vampire craze while at the same time craft a thoughtful and honest teen tale. Along with a thirst for blood, the book has heart.” Here’s to hoping a book tour isn’t far off! Pop Candy.

Girl power – paranormal style! Empowering female protagonists are oftentimes overlooked in the world of fiction, finding themselves overpowered by heroic males whom step in to save the day in the nick of time. Nevertheless, avid readers know that there are plenty of heroine’s on bookshelves, and the authors know it too; thus the reason eighteen of literature’s feistiest female writers have banned together to participate in the Smart Chicks Kick It! Book Tour. Set to launch in Austin, Texas on September 13th; the Smart Chicks Kick It! Book Tour will feature Wicked Lovely author Melissa Marr, The Immortals author Alyson Noel, and Darkest Powers author Kelley Armstrong in person on each of the twelve stops; with special appearances by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, Kimberly Derting, Jeri Smith-Ready, Holly Black, Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl, Jessica Verday, Sarah Reese Brennan, Jackson Pearce, Rachel Vincent, Rachel Caine, Melissa de la Cruz, Mary Pearson, Cassandra Clare, and Carrie Ryan. Publisher’s Weekly.

Over to you…are you a fan of The Vampire Diaries series? Will you be buying Stefan’s Diaries, or are you holding out hope for a spin-off series told from Damon’s point of view? Have you red Adam Rex’s Fat Vampire? What do you think of the Smart Chicks Kick It! Book Tour? Will you be attending the Smart Chicks Kick It! Book Tour if it makes a stop near you?
